After\u00a0graduating from Law at The University of Adelaide, Peter travelled to Europe to\u00a0study Fine Arts at the Gerrit Rietveld Akademie in\u00a0Amsterdam, The Netherlands. Completing\u00a0his training in 1984, Peter moved to (West) Berlin where his acute interest in\u00a0the \u2018Neue Wilde\u2019 group, including artists such as\u00a0Rainer Fetting, Helmut\u00a0Middendorf and Salom\u00e9, was to greatly influence his bold figurative painting\u00a0style.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">After\u00a0returning to Adelaide in 1987, his art practice gradually moved away from figurative\u00a0imagery with its dynamic use of line and gesture.\u00a0He began to construct new\u00a0abstract works characterized primarily by flat, geometric colour fields.The\u00a0formal language of his non-objective painting however, has not entirely eclipsed\u00a0his interest in figuration and \u2018things real\u2019 in the world.\u00a0His work continues\u00a0to express a profound concern with the tension sustained between the real and\u00a0the imagined as well as the\u00a0representational and the non-objective.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">A firm commitment to abstraction on the one hand is challenged by an\u00a0equally convincing subsequent gravitation towards figuration.\u00a0This dance of styles\u00a0has evolved to become Bok\u2019s trademark, surprising his viewers with the\u00a0ever-changing shift from\u00a0representational to abstract work and back again. In\u00a02000, Peter established Bap\u00eba Art School &amp; Studios in Brompton, South\u00a0Australia. Offering professional training, Bap\u00eba is Adelaide\u2019s\u00a0leading\u00a0independent art school.
